Summer Paintings Show
July 15 - Labor Day, 2016

In keeping with the flavor of the season our current exhibit features 56 paintings of various mediums, i.e. oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, by many local and regional artists (35 to be exact) who captured the colors of summer with their paint brushes.

And as a wonderful addition to this exhibit, the works of a well-known sculptor Lloyd Lillie will be displayed as well.  Lillie, a longtime Boston resident who now lives at the Linden Ponds retirement community in Hingham with his wife, Barbara, has been sculpting for more than 60 years. His work appears in collections around the world, including North Yemen and Saudi Arabia. In the United States, Lillie's work is widely dispersed throughout the country, from Massachusetts to Virginia and Colorado. An Honors graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, he also studied at Maine's Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture; the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC; and the Academia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy. Lillie, a professor emeritus of art at Boston University, taught drawing and sculpting there for 34 years. His most famous sculpture is probably of Thomas Jefferson, the life-size bronze sculpture is in four locations. His commissions of local celebrities such as Arnold "Red" Auerbach and Mayor James Michael Curley are among the most popular public sculptures in Boston, and the statues of John Adams and Abigail Adams with a young John Quincy Adams in Quincy. See the display here.
