Jack C. Hobbs FAIA is a Hingham resident who enjoys living in two very different worlds. His "day job" is President and CEO of RF Walsh Project Management, Inc., a Boston firm that provides strategic real estate advice and project management services to healthcare organizations, real estate investors, higher education institutions, municipalities and school districts. Jack is an architect by trade who oversees some very high-profile projects in the Boston area.
The other side of his world is his dedication to painting - the plein aire style in particular. A little over five years ago, he opened the South Street Gallery in Hingham , determined to bring fine art and outdoor painters to the South Shore .
Jack is an artist himself. He has many friends in the artist community and often goes off for weekends to paint with them. In this way, he continually searches for talent to bring to the South Shore and to his gallery - including Charles Movalli from Gloucester, Eric Tobin from Vermont; Stefan Pastuhov from Maine, Vcevy Strekalovsky, Ted Gentry, Dianne Panarelli Miller, and many more.
His gallery attracts artists from around New England by Jack's serving as a roving ambassador. To advance the mission, the Gallery host several art appraisal days during the year, when a renowned area expert provides an estimate of value for paintings that customers and visitors bring in. South Street Gallery hosts a "Paint the Square" day in the fall when 30 artists are invited to paint the scenes in Hingham 's center. Paintings are auctioned off and proceeds benefit the town's historical society. They provide a lecture series that talks about valuation of art, often have artists at opening nights, host artist for painting demonstrations and is becoming a destination place for artists on the South Shore .
