Charles Movalli (1945-2016)

We are so sorry to say that Charles has passed away on March 19, 2016. Charles Movalli was one of Cape Ann's best known painters and teachers, a great ambassador for the Cape Ann School. He was a native of Gloucester and made frequent painting trips to Maine. Movalli's paintings are electric with movement, color and vibrant light. He studied at Clark University, the University of Connecticut; and with Emile Gruppe, Roger Curtis, Zygmund Jankowski and Betty L. Schlemm.. He has taught painting at Painting Workshops in the USA, Canada, Mexico and Europe and won gold and silver medals at the Rockport Art Association and a gold medal at the Salmagundi Club (NY). His work is represented in private and corporate collections throughout the U.S. He was a Contributing Editor for American Artist Magazine and his books include Gruppe on Painting; Brushwork; Color in Outdoor Painting; Painting with Light; Art of Landscape Painting; Croney on Watercolor, North Light.

Charles had a solo exhibition at our Gallery in June 2013. See the show 'here'.
And he and his wife Dale Ratcliff had a show together in July 2013, and the images are 'here'.
