Dale Ratcliff
Born in Medford , Massachusetts , Dale Ratcliff is a graduate of the University of Maine and she also studied with Howard A. Curtis. She returns to Maine frequently on painting trips to paint the coast and its many small fishing villages and harbors. She belongs to many professional organizations, including the Rockport Art Association, North Shore Arts Association, Academic Artists Association, and Hudson Valley Art Association. A teacher of outdoor classes and workshops, Dale also demonstrates and judges for art groups. Some of her awards include the "Aldro Hibbard Award"(NSAA), the "Carl Peters Prize" (RAA), the "Sharon Ortlip Award" (Salmagundi Club), the "Juror's Choice Award" (AAA) and the "Silver Medal Award"(RAA). Her work appears in the book The Best of Acrylic Painting. A feature article about the artist appeared in the September '91 issue of the American Artist magazine. Dale Ratcliff's colorful paintings are characterized by lively brushwork and strong design. She especially enjoys the challenge of plein-air work, trying to catch the fleeting effects of light. |
