'Paint Your Pet' fundraiser benefits Wildlife Center
The recent "Paint Your Pet" event sponsored by South Street Gallery did more than bring 30 artists together, it gave area residents a chance to purchase new and original artwork - paintings of wildlife and pets.
The event also raised $380 for The New England Wildlife Center, through an agreement between the gallery and the center. This event was a chance for art lovers and animal lovers alike to enjoy fine art for a good cause.
The 30 artists who painted at the invitation of South Street Gallery displayed their new creations at the gallery last spring. While some artists are from Hingham , others make their home in Cape Cod , Connecticut and Rhode Island , to name a few.
The New England Wildlife Center is a 22-year-old humane, nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving wildlife and the environment through the operation of a wildlife teaching hospital, education, advocacy and public health and habitat intervention.
The New England Wildlife Center is looking for select artists and artisans to create permanent work studios in its new green LEED-certified facility in Weymouth . Artists should have an interest and subject orientation in nature or animals. Artists will be positioned in public demonstration locations. Selling and display is encouraged within the facility.
Jack Hobbs, owner of South Street Gallery, said that it was a fun celebration of a long-held connection between artists and nature. "We are delighted that this event could benefit a worthy cause such as this for preserving wildlife."
This event is the creation of South Street Gallery, 149 South St. Hobbs said that each year he sets aside a portion of the proceeds to help a local charity. This year the beneficiary is the New England Wildlife Center . Kate Sotolova, the gallery manager, presented the check to Elaine Mahoney, the executive assistant for NEWC.
